Temples and Caves Tour
Mumbai - Aurangabad - Ajanta - Ellora - Hyderabad - Golconda - Chennai - Mahabalipuram - Kancheepuram - Mysore - Belur - Halebid - Hassan - Bangalore - Mumbai
14 Nights – 15 Days

 

Day 01 : Mumbai :-
Arrival in Mumbai and be met by our representative at the airport welcoming you to India. Transfer to the Hotel for immediate occupancy of the rooms already reserved for you. As most of the International flights arrive late in the evening, we have kept this day free. And in the case where your flight arrives during daytime, other optional activities (like visit to amusement park, shopping Tours etc) can be provided or you can also just spend the day at leisure to get rid of jet leg. Overnight in Mumbai.

Day 02 : Mumbai :-
Mumbai formerly called ‘Bombay’, is also known as the commercial capital of India. It is also entertainment hub of India which produces maximum movies in a year and that’s why most of the people call it “Hollywood of India”. Go to morning excursion to Elephanta caves by boat - an island 9 kms from Mumbai and reached by deluxe catamaran service. The islands are famous for the rock cut cave temples dating back to 4th – 9th century AD. The caves have been cut from rocks with large sculptured interiors. An epitome of cave culture, Elephanta consists of seven caves. Above the temple is the mass of natural rock. After Elephanta excursion, come back to city and take the afternoon half day city tour visiting the Gateway of India (This famous monument was built to welcome the visit of the British Monarch, King George V and Queen Mary), Marine Drive (also known as Queen's Necklace because of the dramatic curve of street lights at night that form the shape of a necklace), Hanging Gardens and the Prince of Wales Museum. Overnight in Mumbai.

Day 03 : Mumbai - Aurangabad :-
Proceed to airport to catch the flight for Aurangabad. Arrive in Aurangabad and be met by our representative at the airport followed by transfer to hotel. Evening is free for leisure activities. Overnight in Aurangabad.

Day 04 : Aurangabad - Ajanta + Ellora :-
In the morning, go for the excursion of Ajanta & Ellora. The Ajanta Caves date back to the 2nd century BC. The 30 rock caves are adorned with Buddhist sculpture and frescoes. The rock-out Caves of Ajanta nestle in a panoramic gorge, in the form of a gigantic horseshoe. The paintings that adorn the walls and ceilings of the Caves depict incidents from the life of the Buddha and the various Buddhist divinities. The cave at Ellora, excavated out of the vertical face of an escarpment, are 29 km north of Aurangabad which encompass 34 rock cut shrines representing Buddhist, Hindu & Jain art dating from the 4th to 9th century AD. Ellora has been designed as a World Heritage Site, to be preserved as an artistic legacy that will continue to inspire and enrich the lives of generations to come. Overnight in Aurangabad after this hectic and most satisfying tour.

Day 05 : Aurangabad to Hyderabad :-
In the morning, go for the city tour of Aurangabad. Your sightseeing will include; the Museums like Sunheri Mahal / Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum, Bibi Ka Makbara and Daulatabad Fort. Once known as Devgiri, this fort served as the head quarters of the powerful Yadava rulers. In the 13th century, the Sultan of Delhi made it his capital and renamed it Daulatabad, or City of Fortune. After the sightseeing tour, proceed to railway station to catch the train to Hyderabad in the evening. Overnight in AC sleeper class of the train (you can also opt for Air travel instead of Train travel).

Day 06 : Hyderabad :-
Arrive in the morning at Hyderabad and meet & greet with our executive at Railway Station followed by transfer to hotel. Hyderabad, the capital of State of Andhra Pradesh, is the 5th largest cosmopolitan city in India. The City thrives with a variety of cultures intermingled into an astounding culture that gives it a distinct identity of its own. This is where tradition fuses with modernity, and heritage structures vie with modern high-rise buildings to add to the beauty of the city. Your sightseeing tour will include all the major attractions of the city like Char Minar (it is the signature of Hyderabad as the Taj Mahal is of Agra or the Eiffel Tower is of Paris), Salarjung Museum (This museum houses one of the biggest one-man collections of antiques of the world) and other attractions like Mecca Masjid, Legislative Assembly etc. Overnight in Hyderabad.

Day 07 : Hyderabad To Golconda & Back :-
Today go for the tour of Golconda & nearby places. Golconda, once famed for its diamond mines (from which the famous Kohinoor Diamond of the British Crown was mined) is the site of a strategic fort dating back to the 13th century. This invincible fort has an extraordinary acoustical system & massive battlements. Golconda consists of four distinct forts with a 10 kms long outer wall having 87 semi circular bastions; some still mounted with cannons, eight gateways, four drawbridges and number of royal apartments & halls, temples, mosques, magazines, stables etc, inside. After Fort, also visit The tombs of the legendary Qutb Shahi kings lie about a kilometre away from Golconda Fort. Planned and built by the Qutb Shahis themselves, these tombs are said to be the oldest historical monuments in Hyderabad. They form a large group and stand on a raised platform. The tombs are built in Persian, Pathan and Hindu architectural styles using grey granite, with stucco ornamentation, the only one of its kind in the world where an entire dynasty has been buried at one place. Overnight in Hyderabad.

Day 08 : Hyderabad To Chennai :-
Morning transfer to airport to catch Chennai flight. Arrive & transfer to hotel follwed by City tour of Chennai. It is the cultural center and gateway to Tamil Nadu and a fascinating jumble, dominated by glittering high-rise emporia and corporate buildings. But between all these, you can see the sights of colonial history and splendid strains of classical music. Chennai still has a traditional charm of its ancient past. Shored along the Bay of Bengal, Chennai has evolved from a tiny fishing village to the country’s fourth-largest city. Your sightseeing will include all the major attractions of the city like Fort St. George, 17th century British military High court, Marina Beach, Government Museum Complex, Parthasarathi Temple, Sri Kapaleswarar Temple etc. Overnight in Chennai.

Day 09 : Chennai To Mahabalipuram - Kancheepuram & Back (50 Kms) :-
In the morning, go for the excursion of Mahabalipuram (Mammallapuram) and Kanchipuram, which was the ancient capital of the Pallavas. It is famous as a city of 1000 Temples and still has 124 shrines. The first temple dedicated to Shiva was built in the 7th and 8th century and has paintings on the walls. Temples of Ekambaswara, Kailasanatha, Sri Kamakshi and Varadarajaswamy are of interest. Kanchipuram is also famous for its silks and Sarees. After sightseeing of Kanchipuram, continue journey to Mahabalipuram. Among the most outstanding examples of architecture, Mammallapuram or commanly known as Mahabalipuram stands as a silent witness to the glory of its creators and sculptors. In a land liberally strewn with stone carved temples, Rathas and exquisitely carved stonewalls, this thriving port city, was given the lease of life, through the chisels of Pallavas. Breathtakingly manmade & natural beauty of Mahabalipuram attracts tourists, due to its monumental splendor and sunny beaches. Sightseeing Tour of the city including all the Temples and monuments like seven pagoda (Shore temples, lashed by the waves of the sea) and the seven Rathas (temple chariots), animal figures carved out of solid rock (the earliest known examples of Dravidian architecture) etc. Most of them were constructed during 7th Century. Overnight in Chennai after this long tour.

Day 10 : Chennai To Mysore :-
Morning transfer to railway station for Mysore train. Meeting and assistance upon arrival in Mysore and transfer to hotel. It is situated in the southern part of the Deccan Plateau, in the state of Karnataka. From ancient times, this city has played a significant role in the history of South India. Inspite of being ruled by different Rulers and Kingdoms for ages, Mysore still retains its old charm and Stately beauty. Mysore is a very popular tourist destination, offering several attractions ranging from the royal splendour of Mysore City and its fabulous Dashahera Festival to exquisite temples, pilgrimage centres and scenic spots. Overnight in Mysore.

Day 11 : Mysore To Belur - Halebid & Back :-
Full day excursion of Belur and Halebid. The Chenna Kesava Temple of Belur built 900 yrs ago is an exquisite example of Hoysala art. Halebid's 12th century Hoysaleswara & Kedareswara temple are masterpieces of Hindu art. On the return to Mysore, visit Sravanbelgola the 1000 year old colossus 17-mtr high monolithic statue of Gomteshwara the famous Jain saint, attracts pilgrims from all over India, especially during festival times. Overnight in Mysore.

Day 12 : Mysore :-
Today go for the City Tour of Mysore with exclusive guide. Your sightseeing will include all the attractions like magnificent Mysore Palace (Indo-Saracenic style built between 1897-1912 for the royal family), Sri Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery (situated in Jagmohana Palace, displays sculptures, musical instruments and exquisite paintings dating back to 1875), St. Philomena's Church (beleived to be modeled on the Gothic Cathedral at Cologne, designed by French architects) and Chamundi Hill (at the crest of this hill is 11th century Sri Chamundeshwari Temple. The striking Pyramidal Temple tower was added in 1825-1826. Near the temple is the statue of Mahishasura, the demon slayed by the Goddess Chamundeshwari). Overnight in Mysore.

Day 13 : Mysore To Hassan (115 Kms) :-
Drive from Mysore to Hassan (115 Kms- 3.5 hrs). After check-in to Hotel in Hassan, pay an afternoon visit to famous ruins of Belur and Helebid (50 Kms) which is famous for its Jain temples with exquisite carvings in temples of Hoysala dynasty. The Shennakeshava temple is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. It took 103 years to complete this architectural marvel. The facade of the temple is filled with intricate sculptures and frescos, with no portion left blank. The temples of Halebid - like those of Belur - bear mute testimony to the rich, cultural heritage of Karnataka. The Hoysaleswara Temple, is astounding for its wealth of sculpture details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of Gods and Goddesses, animals, birds and dancing girls. Yet no two facets of the temple are the same. Overnight in Hassan.

Day 14 : Hassan To Banglore(187 kms) :-
Drive from Hassan to Bangalore (187 Kms - 4.5 hrs) enroute visit Srirangapatna (Tipu Sultan's summer retreat and the Ranganath temple). Srirangapatna is rich in history as it was the capital of the Warrior - Kings Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan - The Tiger of Mysore. It is the Srirangapatna Fort where Tipu Sultan charged at the British soldiers with his legendry sword. An obelisk in the Fort marks the place where he fell - betrayed by his own men. The Mosque and the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple are situated inside the Fort. After tour of the Fort, continue journey to Bangalore. Overnight in Bangalore.

Day 15 : Bangalore To Mumbai :-
Bangalore is the capital city of Karnataka. This Garden City has well - laid out parks, gardens, long avenues of blossoming trees and salubrious climate. Emerging as the hi-tech capital of India, it still retains a charm that is totally Indian. Founded in 1537 by a local Chieftain Kempe Gowda, Bangalore has changed dramatically over the years. There are numerous 'not-to-be-missed' sights in Bangalore like the magnificent Vidhana Soudha (Legislative House, that resembles little bit with Capital Building of Washington DC), sprawling Cubbon Park, Colourful Lalbagh etc. After sightseeing, transfer to airport to catch the evening flight to Mumbai. Upon arrival in Mumbai, transfer to international airport to get the flight back home.
